I have always thought a lot about time, but
a sudden death in our little community of a 26 year old
gentleman, has caused me to think a lot more about it…the
brevity of time and the uncertainty of life. Life is given
to us moment by moment and we can use it in a variety of
ways. It is like money: it is ours to do what we like with.
But we only get to spend it once. Then we have to live with
the choices we have made. Spending each day thoughtfully
and wisely will be our best guarantee of the fewest regrets
and the least amount of grief.
The good thing is that we don’t have to make the journey
without guidance. God is very interested in every person
on the face of the earth and He is more than willing to
guide each day and in every circumstance. King David recorded
God’s promise: “I will instruct thee and teach
thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with
Mine eye” Psalm 32:8.
The greatest stumbling block to receiving this guidance
is our own self-will and stubbornness. Sometimes we want
our own way instead of what the Lord wants. Ultimately we
pay a price, because God’s ways are best, even if
they don’t seem to be at first glance. King David
goes on to warn about this in the verses that follow, saying,
“Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have
no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and
bridle, lest they come near unto thee. Many sorrows shall
be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy
shall compass him about.” Psalm 32: 9&10.
As we come to the end of summer we often begin to think
about plans for the rest of the year. Here is a fresh opportunity
to ask the Supreme Planner of the Universe to arrange our
schedule.
Better to choose wisely now than to break our hearts later.
King Solomon, the son of King David, exhorts us to: “Ponder
the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.”
Proverbs 4:26.
